Danielle Laberge

Vice President

L'Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)

Titulaire d’un doctorat en criminologie de l’Université de Montréal, Danielle Laberge a été professeure au Département de sociologie de l’UQAM, de 1982 à 2001. Ses recherches ont alors porté principalement sur l’exclusion sociale et la pauvreté.

 

De 2001 à 2008, elle a occupé le poste de vice-rectrice à la Vie académique et de vice-rectrice exécutive. Au cours de cette même période, elle a également été rectrice par intérim pendant 14 mois.

 

De 2009 à 2017, elle a été professeure au Département de management et technologie. En 2017, l’UQAM lui a accordé le statut de professeure émérite. Elle a été nommée vice-rectrice à la Vie académique par intérim en mars 2018.

Thomas Park

Vice President, Operations & Strategy at BDC Capital

Thomas Park is Vice President, Operations & Strategy at BDC Capital, where he managed all operational and strategic issues related to venture capital and private equity investments. He was playing the role of Digital Lead for the transformation.

 

Before joining BDC, Thomas was Program Officer with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he supported the leadership team in developing and executing their family planning initiative. Prior to this, he served as Senior Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company. While there, he worked extensively in Francophone and Anglophone Africa, Indonesia and Pakistan, particularly on public health system transformation strategies and operations. He previously worked at the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials, the OSCE Mission in Kosovo and the International Criminal Court. He began his career as an associate, focusing on international and corporate financial transactions and mergers and acquisitions at McCarthy Tétrault LLP.

 

Thomas currently sits on McGill University’s Global Health Programs International Advisory Board. He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at Ryerson University’s Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science and the Banff Forum. He is also an alumnus of the Governor General’s Leadership Conference. In 2017, Thomas was recognized as one of the country’s outstanding young leaders in Canada’s Top 40 under 40.

 

Thomas holds bachelor’s degrees in Civil and Common Law from McGill University, a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

Guangli Wang

Director of Toronto Division of Zhongguancun Science Park

 

Guangli Wang is President of Zhongguancun Science Centre Inc., the Canadian liaison office of Zhongguancun Science Park which is the largest and the most important science park in China and often dubbed as China’s Silicon Valley. He is responsible for the overall management of the office based in Markham but with services reaching out to all major high-tech innovative cities all over Canada. His main work includes presenting and explaining to the locals about the Zhongguancun Science Park specific polices to foster industries and attract more human resources back to the science park to prosper, liaising the local resources to establish good relationship with them, and offering services to those people when they make up their minds to start up business in Zhongguancun Science Park. Prior to the current position, he once worked at the central and local governments in China and Deloitte China as a manager at the Marketing and Business Development Department.

 

He holds a Master’s degree in Civil and Commercial Law and a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Renmin University of China. He has also received a postgraduate certificate in Supply Chain Management from Humber College.

Anthony DeOrsey

At Techcode, Anthony works to help startups in the IoT, digital health, and smart mobility verticals accelerate beyond the series-A stage toward higher levels of investment and commercialization in global markets. Anthony advises startups on product validation strategies, financial planning, and positioning to investors, with a focus on US-China expansion.

 

Anthony has 7 years of experience in cross-border business between the US and China. Prior to joining Techcode, Anthony spent 5 years working in Shanghai - 2 years as marketing director for Eco&More, the first brand of all-natural cleaning and body care products produced in China, and 3 years at China Integrated, a China market-entry project management firm, supporting technology companies from the US and Europe access markets in China. Anthony was a co-author of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) and Swiss Embassy annual “Business in China / Swiss Business in China” report in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

 

Anthony has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Rhode Island and a master’s degree in sustainability from the Harvard University Extension School. Anthony is an incoming MBA candidate at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.

Antarezia Liang

Ms. Liang has extensive professional experience in investment banking within technology, energy, mining and real estate sectors and is a regular speaker at tech, investments, fintech and blockchain events and conferences worldwide. Ms. Liang has also advised blockchain companies in strategic matters on fund raising, strategic partnership, as well as business development and bridging traditional capital market with tokenization and digital securities offerings. Ms. Liang has been an advisor to investment groups in Asia and Africa, as well as an advisor to CEO and advisor to Chairman for public and private companies in North America and UK. Ms. Liang has held the positions of executive director, director for private equity firm as well as family offices, where she is responsible for North American investments in the mining, energy, technology and diversified sectors. Ms. Liang had held the position of investment manager with a Canadian hedge fund. Prior to that, Ms. Liang was an investment banker with one of Canada's largest independent full service national investment dealers where she focused on cross-border M&A, private placements, IPOs & RTOs, as well as secondary offerings. Ms. Liang also held the position of equity research associate with the firm with an emerging market focused coverage. Prior to this role, Ms. Liang worked in a global rating agency covering real estate, E&P and structured products.

David Carbonaro

David Carbonaro is a senior lawyer who practiced securities, corporate finance, mining and international law. He has been instrumental in heading up strategic initiatives for Canadian clients in China and the Middle East and uses his legal and business expertise to assisting Canadian companies in accessing the tremendous opportunities available in these emerging markets. Mr. Carbonaro was appointed as special counsel to the Toronto Stock Exchange for the purposes of presenting the opportunities on the TSX to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia investment community at Tadawul in Riyadh (the Saudi Stock Exchange). He has extensive experience in international business and has advised companies doing business in Africa, Asia, the Middle-East and North America.

 

Mr. Carbonaro has received several recognition during his long career. Yann Joly, Ph.D. (DCL), FCAHS, Ad.E. is the Research Director of the Centre of Genomics and Policy (CGP). He is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Human Genetics cross-appointed at the Bioethics Unit, at McGill University. He was named advocatus emeritus by the Quebec Bar in 2012 and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2017.

Prof. Joly is a member of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCU) Sectoral Commission for Natural, Social and Human Sciences. He is the current Chair of the Bioethics Workgroup of the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC) and, of the Ethics and Governance Committee of the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC). He is also a member of the Human Genome Organization (HUGO) Committee on Ethics, Law and Society (CELS).

Prof. Joly’s research interests lie at the interface of the fields of scientific knowledge, health law (biotechnology and other emerging health technologies) and bioethics. He has published his findings in over 120 peer-reviewed articles featured in top legal, ethical and scientific journals. He served as a legal advisor on multiple research ethics committees in the public and private sectors. Prof. Joly also sits on editorial committees and acts as a reviewer for a wide range of publications in his field. In 2012, he received the Quebec Bar Award of Merit (Innovation) for his work on the right to privacy in the biomedical field.

Yann Joly

Serguei Mokhov had obtained his PhD from Concordia University,

Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he also completed his bachelor’s and

master’s degrees in Computer Science and Information Systems Security.

Mokhov’s diverse research interests include intensional programming,

distributed and autonomic computing, digital forensics and blockchain,

information systems security, AI, software engineering, computer

graphics and HCI, Linux, and computer networks. His PhD dissertation

had to do with Intensional Cyberforensics. He also teaches at

Concordia and Champlain College of Vermont various subjects in those

disciplines.

 

Mokhov joined Miao Song to work on the Illimitable Space System (ISS)

and its OpenISS core for VFX and motion capture as a technical lead at

mDreams Stage at Concordia and he is also a Manager of Networks,

Security and HPC at the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer

Science at Concordia.

 

Mokhov is a co-founder and a co-director of Canada China International

Film Festival (CCIFF) and in particular was involved in co-organizing

and chairing its Entertainment Technology (ET) Summit and Exhibition

(http://cciff.ca/2018/festival/et/) from 2016 onwards.

 

Mokhov is also a researcher, mentor, instructor and a speaker on

various topics ranging from AI, fintech, film technology, and

blockchain at Sun Life Financial Leadership Program, Canada-China

Youth Business Forum, and top-tier conferences like SIGGRAPH and

SIGCSE.

Mengti is a Strategic Consultant at Euroconsult. Her expertise lies in financial modeling (e.g. P&L, DCF modeling), market assessment, strategic analysis, competitive analysis and benchmarking.

Since joining Euroconsult, Mengti regularly contributes to the commercial satellite strategic due-diligence projects for management teams in finance, space and government sector. In addition, she played a significant role in developing industrial benchmark reports such as Satellite Communications & Broadcasting Markets Survey: Forecasts to 2028, Top NewSpace Startups to Watch FSS Operators: Benchmarks & Performance Review and China Space Industry 2018.

Mengti regularly participates international conference in the satellite industry such as World Satellite Business Week, China Space Forum. She was selected as a judge for the 35th Space Symposium in Colorado, U.S. She hosted a Media conference in Beijing where she was interviewed by 12+ Medias in 2018. Her articles were published by multiple media such as Satellite World in China.

Mengti holds two bachelor’s degrees in commerce from Shandong University, one in economic the other one in management and earned her master’s degree in economics from Concordia University. Currently, she is enrolled in project management program at McGill University in Canada.

Xiaobo joined BDC Capital in 2018, was mainly working with Operations & Strategy of Venture Capital, Growth & Transition Capital and Growth Equity. Xiaobo has participated in the projects of startup ecosystem, digitalization, business transition etc. Xiaobo has been working hard to bridge the Canadian-Chinese entrepreneurs with our diverse and dynamic environment for entrepreneurship.

 

Xiaobo has worked with McKinsey & Company during 2013-2017. She worked in Montreal Office, as Project Manager Assistant, throughout Org, Ops, Digital McKinsey, Public Sector practices. And in Shanghai Office, she was a core member of the Professional Development Team of McKinsey's Digital Asia.

 

Xiaobo began her career in College Bourget as a strategist of Canadian-Chinese educational projects. She organised the Quebec’s First High School Student Tour to China.

 

Xiaobo is also the founder of DreamBig Foundation. Through on-line charity platform, their global volunteers help kids from remote China to understand about world, knowledge, future and career.

 

Xiaobo Speaks English, Chinese, French and German. She got her diploma in French language at Nantes University in France.
